Philadelphia area creatives have a new tool at their fingertips, the industry-standard robotic camera arm–The Bolt by Mark Roberts Motion Control.
A staple of commercial tabletop, blockbuster films, and mind-bending VFX, the Bolt specializes in precise high-speed, repeatable moves.
The programmable robotic camera system consists of a 6-axis robot, with 30 feet of track providing a 7th axis of motion. The only comparable experience would be manipulating a camera inside 3d software.
The Bolt is available through Mocolab, a partnership between Expressway Cinema Rentals and Mocolab's lead operator, Mike Greenberg.
“Moving back to Philly from NYC, I started researching gaps in our production landscape. When it came to a robotic motion control system, I received two conflicting responses. Directors would love to have a reliable option available, and Producers labeled them as expensive with long setup times.” Greenberg said.
Mocolab brings a dedicated professional system, and efficient processes for sourcing and expertise right into the Philadelphia creative market. With the barriers reduced, the doors are now open for a more diverse client profile to tap into these advanced technologies and techniques.
Mocolab, is also a turnkey, tabletop studio where the robot lives, making it more affordable for in house product and tabletop use cases. Additionally, we can transport the Bolt to larger studios in town and on-location as needed.
Greenberg added, “As with any paradigm-shifting technique, there’s a learning curve for creative concepting. But once agencies see the Bolt in action, they’re hooked. I’m excited for this level of creative vision to now be possible here."
